Our Story

How it all started...

In late 2017, Scott and Stephanie Bodenhamer began sensing God leading them into a new season. After serving as youth pastors in California for over ten years, they felt called to step out in faith and help build something new.
After months of prayer and seeking God’s direction, the Bodenhamers made the decision in January 2018 to plant a church in Camden, Arkansas, where Scott’s parents were relocating. Out of that calling, Freedom Church was born.
In August 2018, Scott and Stephanie, along with their children Isabella and Zion, moved to Camden to begin the journey of launching the church. Throughout the remainder of that year, they hosted launch parties and community gatherings to meet people, build relationships, and share the vision of Freedom Church.

On February 10, 2019, Freedom Church officially launched.

From the very beginning, the heart of Freedom Church has been centered on the Gospel — helping people experience an authentic relationship with God through Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit. We believe in living faithful, purpose-filled lives that bring glory to God while building meaningful community with one another.

Freedom Church exists to reach the lost, the hurting, and the hopeless, pointing people to the hope and freedom found in Jesus. We are passionate about serving our community through prayer, worship, outreach, and genuine love. More than programs or processes, we will always be about people.

We believe God has called us to help people find Freedom from their past and Freedom to find the purpose.

A Heart to Serve....

At Freedom Church, one of our greatest passions is serving the Camden community. Throughout the year, we host Serve Days as a way to love and support the people around us in practical and meaningful ways.

Every Serve Day looks a little different. Sometimes it’s a community worship night, and other times it’s cleaning up local parks, serving meals, helping with yard work, or improving spaces for families to enjoy. Over the years, we’ve had the opportunity to feed our community, build a sand volleyball court at a local park, clean up parks and neighborhoods, and serve in many other ways.

We believe serving others is one of the clearest ways we can share the love of Jesus. In Scripture, Jesus calls us to “love your neighbor as yourself,” and we are committed to living that out in our city.

More than anything, we want people to know they are seen, valued, and loved by God. We would love for you to be part of what God is doing through Freedom Church and become part of our church family.

Our Freedom Family....

At Freedom Church, our desire is not simply to have church — we want to be the Church. To us, that means building authentic relationships that go beyond Sunday mornings through life groups, serve days, worship, and doing everyday life together.

We believe God created us for community. We are called to worship together, serve together, grow together, and simply enjoy life together. Our heart is to reflect the kind of healthy, purpose-filled church family we see in the Book of Acts — people united in faith, generosity, love, and genuine connection.

Whether it’s through a life group, celebrating baptisms, serving our city, or even running into each other at the grocery store, we want Freedom to feel like family. We believe church is not about religion or routines, but about relationship — first with God, and then with one another.

Everyone has a story, and we want to encourage people to share how God has transformed their lives and continues to work in their journey. Your story could be the encouragement someone else needs.
At Freedom, there is always room for one more.
